The Mozambique Exploration, Remediation and Infill Campaign (MERIC) in Southern Mozambique is an ongoing four-year drilling campaign. These onshore operations in and around the Temane and Pande fields in Southern Mozambique are critical to maintain contracted gas quantities for the Sasol Group, our partners and the country of Mozambique, as well as deliver the wells for the PSA Project and PT5-C exploration commitments.

The exploration, infill and development wells, workovers and P&A activities are anticipated to cost up to $500 million. MERIC is expected to employ 300-400 people at a time and expenditure rates of US$350,000 per day are not uncommon during peak activity periods.

Furthermore, GSO is looking to contract an additional slickline unit for Well Services work, a Hydraulic Workover Unit for workovers and applicable plug & abandonment activities, as well as acquire additional exploration licenses in Mozambique for which additional wells will need to be planned and executed. The Head Wells will be involved and have accountabilities in all of these activities.

There is also a commitment to drill exploration wells in block A5-A, offshore central Mozambique. These activities are likely to take place in 2022/23 and will be operated by ENI in semi-sub/drillship territory but will require governance and oversight by the Head Wells to ensure the projects are being delivered to plan and that GSO’s interests are being maintained.
