Counterpart International is seeking a Truck Driver for an anticipated 5-year USDA McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program which aims to reduce hunger and improve literacy and nutrition among school-age students, especially girls. The Truck Driver will be responsible for transporting commodities from one location to another, including loading the truck, abiding by traffic laws and ensuring safe unloading and delivery at the destination. This is full time position, reporting to the Admin/Grants Officer at the field office in Matola, Mozambique. The applicant should be a Mozambique national or have the legal right to work/reside in Mozambique.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive office truck for transportation of authorized commodities and goods;
- Ensure truck is safe and availability of all the required documents and supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, staff contact numbers, map of the city/country, first aid kit and necessary spare parts;
- Ensure cost-savings through proper use of truck through accurate maintenance of daily logs;
- Log all trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing etc.;
- Provision of inputs to preparation of the truck maintenance plans;
- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned truck through timely minor repairs;
- Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the truck, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, car washing etc.;
- Performs minor repairs and arrange for other repairs to ensure that the truck is kept clean;
- Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents;
- Securing commodities and properly arranging and balancing it within the truck;
- Other office duties such as photocopying, scanning etc.;
- Any other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.
Required
- Secondary Education;
- Valid Driver’s license for heavy weight vehicles;
- 5 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair;
- Fluency in Portuguese and preferred English proficiency;
- Must be extremely reliable, trustworthy and a good team worker;
- Flexible in working hours.
Preferred
- Certificate in Mechanics is an added advantage;
- Knowledge of local languages of the area would be an asset;
- Strong sense of responsibility;
- Punctuality and commitment.
