Introduction

Good Neighbors is an international humanitarian development NGO founded in Korea in 1991. It was granted General Consultative Status from United Nation Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). To make the world a place without hunger, where people live together in harmony, we work in 46 countries with our focus on community development to protect children’s rights and encourage the self-reliance of communities. We not only provide humanitarian assistance to North Korea but conduct emergency relief activities throughout the globe in need of a help. Following its strategic direction, Good Neighbors Mozambique (GNMOZ) works in partnership with the
government and other partners to ensure that more children have equitable access to early learning and complete primary education, acquiring basic literacy and numeracy competencies. Good Neighbors has secured a partnership with UNICEF for a project called: Building Resilience through Education and Community engagement in the cyclone-affected schools in Mozambique” Financed by the
European Union IcSP.


Responsabilidades

  • The overall target is to reach children and teachers in primary schools through reconstructing resilient mixed material classrooms;
  • This will be accompanied by the reconstruction of sanitation blocks and the construction of mixed material teacher houses;
  • Distribution of teaching supplies to teachers and learning supplies to children studying in targeted schools;
  • These teachers will be trained on the use and maintenance of the teaching material, provision of PSS (psychosocial support) and on building resilience through education and community engagement;
  • In addition, teachers and education personnel will be trained on gender, violence against children (VAC) and life skills;
  • The major tasks to be undertaken by the PSS Officer in this regard may include but not limited to the following;
  • The PSS Officer works under the supervision of the Project Manager (PM), and is responsible for;
  • Leading assessments, training sessions, and deal with cross-cut aspects of the program in Beira;
  • Manage, lead, source content from UNICEF documents and continue to shape the Good Neighbors Mozambique vision in line with the organization’s established policies, principles and operating practices;
  • Provide to teachers and education personnel orientation on PSS, gender, violence against children (VAC), Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) issues and on the implementation of life skills activities (circulos de interesse);
  • Training and supervising field staff and stakeholders in PSS and Safe Guarding related issues;
  • Adherence to implementation timeline for program activities;
  • Coordinate with PM in mitigating challenges that arise during the training and conduct of PSS activities;
  • Study the developed content by UNICEF for the training program;
  • Follow the projects objectives and deliver a concrete, realistic and impact-oriented implementation of the activities;
  • Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation processes and procedures are followed for each program for the effective and ethical implementation of programs;
  • Ensure proper risk assessment and mitigation strategy is in place for the project and constantly monitored as per GNMOZ Safe Guarding Policy;
  • Maintain regular communication with UNICEF for cohesive and strategic implementation.


Requirements

  • Degree in Social work, Expressive art therapy or Psychology with at least 2 years of experience;
  • Significant experience in an equivalent position in a development or humanitarian context;
  • Able to work in a high stress environment;
  • Flexibility and cultural sensitivity;
  • Proven training experience;
  • Proven therapeutic experience with child trauma;
  • Worked in an educational environment- Advantage;
  • Past experience in group therapy;
  • Experience in child protection in emergencies and protracted crises;
  • Experience in working with people/teams, Experience of delivering training workshops;
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with vulnerable communities;
  • Working experience at least 1 or 2 years with UN or other international development organization is an asset;
  • Professionally fluent in English and Portuguese. Local language is an asset.
