Position: Communications Officer

Duty Station: Nampula

Reports to: Deputy Chief of Party

Communications Officer

The Communications Officer will report to the Deputy Chief of Party and will be responsible for the overall design, implementation, and evaluation of strategic communications-based activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction on communications including design and implementation of a sound communication plan that ensures visibility of LOGOS activities and impact for both government and client at central, provincial, and district levels.
  • Liaise with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL & CLA) team and other technical staff to design, implement and evaluate strategic communication-based activities.
  • Be able to work directly with government, implementing partners, civil society, or private sector to identify and develop potential strategic communications activities.
  • Produce quarterly progress reports in Portuguese to be shared with government and other stakeholders.
  • Produce weekly updates in English to be shared with the client including photo-reporting and other communication and visibility material.
  • Produce press releases, newsletters, and infographics
  • Work with DAI Head Office to discuss and develop a strategy for project communications, including reporting and social media usage.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and communication officers within the government, civil society and implementing partners.
  • Management of media inquiries and coordinate press conferences, interviews, and events
  • Other duties assigned by the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party and/or the Collaborating, Learning and Adapting Specialist that are consistent with the overall focus of the assignment.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in political science, communications, journalism, English, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in strategic communications or another related field.
  • Relevant experience working to create strategic communications plans, particularly for USAID implementing partners or nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of the context in Northern Mozambique, including government and media institutional setting, civil society organizations, and various audiences preferred.
  • Networks in Cabo Delgado, Nampula, and Zambézia provinces.
  • Advanced English with excellent grammar, composition and proofreading skills and proficiency required
  • Portuguese language fluency required.
