Job Description

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Administrative Officer, the incumbent will provide reliable and safe driving services to UNDP staff, and if so, required to other UN officials and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility.


The Driver must have excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues and a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.


The Driver provides driving services to the operations and programme staff in the Hub, Consultants and Experts, and UN staff on mission.


Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of Administration the Driver will support and work in close collaboration with Administration and Support. The incumbent will support the driving services to UNDP Staff ensuring the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, primarily in Pemba but also in other locations as needed.


Under the guidance and supervision of the Administrative Associate, the Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services ensuring to UNDP RR, other high-ranking UN Officials and visitors, highest standards of discretion, integrity, high sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.


The Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services ensuring to UNDP RR, other high-ranking UN Officials and visitors, highest standards of discretion and integrity, high sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. Upon request for the supervisor, the driver can also be required to provide driving services to the Operations and Programme staff in the CO., consultants and experts and UN staff on mission.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services
  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services focusing on the following:
  • Driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle.
  • Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle.
  • Timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies
  • Ensure the management of vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

  • Through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Availability of documents/ supplies
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.


Competencies


  • Ability to collect, register, maintain and deliver mail and UNDP pouch; ability to manage archives.
  • Knowledge of policy & procedures on fleet management.
  • Knowledge of policy and procedures on insurance: ability to conduct risk assessment to procure coverage; to ensure relevant tracking and reporting.
  • Ability to manage events, including venue identification, accommodation, logistics, catering, transportation, and cash disbursements, etc.


Required Skills And Experience


  • Skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations
  • Combined skills in driving and courier will be an asset.


Education


  • Secondary Education completed.
  • Valid Driving license.


Experience


  • Minimum 2 years of work experience as a driver.
  • Defensive driving course will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Good knowledge of GPS/Maputo and Matola tracking will be an asset.


Please note that continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
